Hello All,
My house is 95 years old and when I purchased it, it had carpeting throughout. While preparing to move in, I peeled back the carpeting on the first floor to find very nice hardwood flooring so I removed the carpeting in the dining room and living room. To my surprise the floor in the living room and dining room were not completely in hardwood but rather 36" hardwwod border around old wooden planks in each of the rooms where an area rug probably was placed. I refinished the areas with harwood and had area rugs made to go over the planks. Fast forward 6 years now...
My question... Is it possible to inlay harwood or even ceramic tiles (for dining room) in the area with the planks? I am guessing that matching will not be an option and I really like the old floors so I am open to ideas with this. I have seen some floors with different patterns in the middle and that got me thinking.

Thanks

Yes it's possible.

Here's a situation that's almost identical to yours, but the original floors were only about twenty years old...

See bottom of the page. Diagonal hardwood in the middle with borders.
