We are finishing a #2 grade red oak floor. After applying 2 coats of minwax professional super fast drying satin, there a bubbles in it and part of the floor is shiny as glass and part is flat. Do we need to lightly sand and re-coat? And could the difference in sheen be caused by the fact that "dear husband" did not read directions and stir before using?

It is because the coats are too thin.

The coats were put on fairly thick and now there are 3 of them. What to do about the bubbles?

The bubbles will have to be sanded out.

dear husband STIRREDthe 3rd coat of poly before applying, finish now beautiful and you can't see the bubbles but you can feel them. What grit sandpaper of screen do we need to use and then just one more coat of STIRRED poly?

If its just a few they will probally will get knocked off after a few weeks of wear and tear. If you want to recoat you will have to determine what's causing the bubbles, possibly dust or trash in the finish itself hard tto say. A few good habits would be to strain your finish, vaccume air ducts window sills ,base ect. Let the dust settle after vaccuming. Cut off the hvac until the finish has skinned over. Watch dust coming from shoes and clothing ect. basicly its near impossible to have a 100% flawless finish.

Thank you KevinD for your helpful information. One more question for anyone out there. After three coats of poly (applied Apr. 1), how long till it can take everyday traffic and furniture placement? We are 5 people to a 2 bedroom 1 bath for the time being ( with my mother)
