I have acquired a gym floor, which I have in 10 x 20 sections. I am removing the nails from the substrate, then plaining to remove the finish. App 1/8 removed to get clean un sealed wood..here in lies my question. I have in my home laminated 3/8 thick hardwood flooring which has lost it's finish. Previous home owner attempted to sand and refinish leaving me not knowing how much veneer is remaining. Can I glue the maple hardwood flooring to the laminated hardwood which is glued to the concrete floor. There are no problems with the existing laminated flooring In the area of coming loose from the concrete. I believe it would create a good substrate, however can I staple nail or glue the hardwood to it tying to avoid a thicker substrate because of carpet transition. What do u guys think. Thanks for your help

Thats not thick enough to properly fasten a solid 3/4 in hardwood to. Plus your risking the old floor having moisture issues. When you cover an existing floor thats adhered to concrete it's always risky biness because it could come loose. The existing floor might be breathing well no but if covered you could potentially block all emissions causing it to fail. Second...or is it third, you have coatings on the wood that will prevent the adhesive from sticking ubless it's sanded off.

Should I put a 1/2" plywood on top then mail the floor down. This will put the finish floor higher then my thresholds for the exterior doors. I can raise the thresholds if that is best. Also this creates a 1 1/2 transition to the carpet areas. Don't mean to be a pain
New at this. I do a lot of wood work but never floors

the right way would be remove the old floor and replace it with 3/4 inch plywood and shoot down to guarantee 100% . wish you the best of luck. wentzwood Phoenix AZ
