We had a Bruce 3/8 finished floor installed 2 months ago. It poped and crackled the minute the installers left. I had a inspector come from Bruce to see what the problem was. He said the floor was not level. We had the floor taken out and it was also found the flooring ran that same direction as the joists. I have read that this should not be done because of movement.
I told the installer the OSB subfloor needed to be leveled and he told me he could not do that on wood as it would crack with the movement of the subfloor. Don't they make filler for a wood subfloor that does not do this? Also we have some glue residue on the kitchen floor which I thought needed to come off, the installer said it was fine. I've been reading up on prep for the subfloor but wanted to ask, what we should know about this before we have these idiots put down another floor.
We did this though Lowes and need to use the same guys but I want to be armed with info before they touch this other floor. I know a floor will last at least a year with poor subfloor prep, after the warranty runs out its our tough luck and they know that as well. Any help on the best subfloor prep would be most grateful.
