we've just installed bamboo flooring in a bedroom...to clean up the excess glue we used mineral spirits. now there are smudges ALL OVER the floor! did we use too much? did we take the finish right off the floor? that seems to be the problem. nothing is taking these smudges away. what can we do to fix this?? thanks in advance..

If you leave glue smudges on the face of prefinished wood for longer then 12 hours, it is impossible to remove. This is why when installing, you must have a clean rag handy that has some mineral spirits on it, to wipe as you go along. I recheck first thing the next morning as I pull tape, and get any glue I missed ASAP.

Light sand and refinish would be the only real solution.

I disagree. It takes ALOT of work to remove glue residue. Mineral spirits, rag, and a whole lotta elbow grease will do the job. It won't be easy.

thanks for your advice.. we will try again with the mineral spirits. if we have to go the other route (sanding and refinishing), thank goodness its only a small guest room!! it has been 3 days since the install , though.
