We just bought a house and pulled up the old carpet and there are beautiful hardwood floors that have been refinished. That's the good news..BAD NEWS.. they glued the carpet around the edges.. Please tell me there is a way to get that glue off WITHOUT having to sand and refinish the WHOLE floor??? Thanks for any and all advice!

Try mineral spirits or charcoal lighter fluid, with lots of clean towels.

If it's a water soluble glue, you can likely scrub it off. You can also try a razor scraper to very carefully peel it off.

Try Goo gone or goof off in a closet FIRST. Ive found that it was too rich of a solvent and began loosening and removing the finish (especially oil base).

I like the mineral spirits best but extreme amounts of elbow grease are required.

Good Luck!

Goo Gone and Goof Off are completely different products. Goo Gone is a natural citrus orange cleaner that is not harsh whatsoever. It cleans crayon marks, gum, adhesives, etc. Goof Off is an acetone based latex paint remover. I do NOT recommend that on any floor whatsoever.

I have discovered in another room, under the carpet, that they put a luan type wood over the wood floor (hopefully that makes sense...) what and how would be the best way to remove that??? I have a funny feeling that room will have to be sanded and refinished but 1 out of 6 isn't that bad??? Thanks again for any help!!
