This is my first time doing hardwood installations. I have seen some people using a 15# underlay, but most using nothing.

I live in Alberta Canada. There was a hardwood flooring company that went bankrupt in Fall, I ended up picking about 600sqft of this stuff. its Maple - Select. the brand on the back of the hardwood says "ICB CORP" but i cant find any info on it. it has 9 layers. Anyways, What can you guys tell me about this hardwood? Would you put anything under the the wood before installing? Its brand new home construction.

Your advise is all very appreciated.

That appears to be a solid, factory stained and finished floor, maple I think. You will need a wood subfloor to nail that flooring down. If your house has a concrete slab subfloor, then you will need to build a wood subfloor over that. However, since you're in Canada, I doubt you have a concrete slab. Most likely, you have a basement with a wood subfloor. There are some instructions here that will help you install that floor.

Thanks gary, your help is very appreciated :)

you're right. I have an 8' basement, with a wood subfloor.

Do i need to put anything between teh wood and the flooring?

I'll read those links now too :)

PS: Yes, it is maple.

Oh, 1 more question. I'm sure I know the answer to this though.

in the box that the hardwood came in, the sheets are "taped" together (on the back side) This comes out right? I'm assuming they only did this for packaging.

Just install the wood according to the instructions. The "sheets" between the boards are for protection in packaging

I don't know if www.NOFMA.org still has the general steps and standards for a proper installation, still viewable to the public, like they once did.

Hi, Anthony:
We, too, are from Alberta and have purchased the same hardwood at an auction. Did you get it installed okay? Any problems with the wood?

hmm, yeaI had a few problems with some of the wood. They're not 100% perfectly square. so not all the corners will match up perfectly. Also, the real dark peices (extremely light weight) will easily damage, so maybe consider not using the real dark light weight peices.
