We recently bought a house that has Pine 1x6 boards as the hardwood floors. These are the types of boards found at Big Improvement store in the wood section. Is this ok for a hardwood floor? There are gaps in between the boards, but it is kind of rustic looking. We are remodeling some of the house and would be needing to add some new boards to finish our living area. When I removed the some of the boards it is very dirty inbetween them. Does anyone else have this floor or have you seen it used, I have always seen tongue and groove. Will this type of wood stain easy? I have attached a picture.

At this point we are trying to decide if it is worth salvaging or if we should just replace with new hardwood flooring.

If you like it, then keep it. Pine flooring can look right in certain homes. It is not a hardwood and will dent very easily. Having gaps between the boards is sorta normal for pine flooring. If it is not T&G, then someone just bought pine boards and nailed and/or glued them down. Personally, it would not be my choice.
