I've searched the site but was unable to find anything quite like what I'm dealing with . . .

I've got three dogs, all house broken, but I just recently took in a foster puppy that was soon-to-be euthanized. She is an absolute sweetheart, but she has had two accidents in the house today. I cleaned them up immediately and it doesn't appear to have left any sort of stain, but, instead, you can visibly see the outline of where the urine stood. It almost appears as though its a residue or film on the wood, but I'm not entirely sure.

And, to be quite honest, I'm not sure what type of flooring it is. This is my first home and the house was built in the 40s . . . I'm going to take a wild guess and say these are the original floors. They're scratched to hell, but they have a lot of character. Anyway, how do I get rid of this residue? Is there a certain product I need to use? The floors may just be dirty for all I know and the ammonia in the urine cleaned of dirt . . . There is no telling!

Any help is appreciated! Thanks a ton guys! And have a Happy Thanksgiving!

I've kept searching on the boards and found a few things related to pet urine stating that it removes the finish. Is there a way to refinish these small areas? Or is it simply something that needs to be done throughout the house?

It sounds to me like you may have a wax finish on your floors. Take a clean white cloth dampened with a bit of mineral spirits and rub the floor in an inconspicuous area. If you get a shiny residue on the cloth, then you are dealing with wax, and it may be possible to clean the affected area with the mineral spirits and re-wax.
