I would like to put real hardwood into a home I just purchased. However, I'm not sure this is possible with my current sub floor.

I have 1/2" particle board glued and nailed to 3/4" plywood. I know that particle board won't hold a nail very well, however, if I used a longer nail or staple (2") and got the tip into the plywood would it hold? Or, if it wouldn't hold would it be a good idea to use glue and staples?

I want an oak floor and don't want to use a floating floor unless I have to. We will be living in this home for a long time (Lord willing) and I want something that I will be happy with in 20 years.

Help!
Thanks,
Halfgut
