I am getting my 100 year old heart pine floors redone. The were previously waxed. My floor guy is proposing screening & buffing, applying Magic Oil. I'm concerned about my dog who is a sloppy drinker. Will the new finish handle water spots or look horrible as the current floor does?

Screens start at 60 grit and should take off most of the wax, but any wax residue may interfere with the penetration of any more oil. I would recommend a large waterproof mat next to the water bowl, for any floor finish. One selling point of penetrating oils is the ability to do touch-ups, along with no or practically no VOC's. Be sure to get the directions on how to keep your floor looking like you want it to look, once every six months may be a good maintenance schedule.

You've probably already made a decision on this, but if you look over
Tadas' comments on http://napervillehardwood.com/blog/revisited-pallmann-magic-oil/ it seems that you'd be ok with Pallman and the doggy.

And as the other replier says, it's much easier to repair than the top-coating polyurethanes.
