Hi. I live in south florida and I am in a time constraint!! Marble floors will be completely demoed in 2 days. The painter wants to start when the demo is finished to do the ceiling, walls. In the meantime, the engineered hardwood floors that are prefinished (casa bella brand) will be delivered to sit in the house in 2 days, max 3 days and then have to sit a few days. The bella cera company says do the painting first due to the humidity increase when painting. Others say get the floor in first due to the dust the cutting of the wood will make, and then may have to repaint. The install will take 5 days for the floors (3000 square feet of wood) However, I move in on Aug 22nd. Today is Aug. 13th. Any advice?? If i wait a few weeks to paint (after wood acclimated and installed) would the humidity during painting affect the floors (they are getting glued down).
thanks
I'm very confused.

Its a prefinished floor which means very, very little dust. the dust from the cuts is easy to contain, on remodels we often are asked to either encapsulate a workroom with plastic or cut outside in the garage/deck/front porch. Id paint before the floor goes down no question. Having a painting crew with ladders/scaffolding ect is asking for damage before we get into the problem of all major wet work should be done before flooring due to the problems associated with wood and water. A hotel for a few days is going to be way cheaper and far less of a headache than jacking up a 20k floor because your in a rush.

Paint First. It's easier to dust the walls down than mask the floor off and worry about all the ladders and scaffolds on the prefinished floor :!:

When you have the choice...of coarse paint first. But think about it.....People paint more often than they replace their hardwood floor. A professional painter paints in prestine homes, with hardwood floors, all the time with no problem,( I'm lucky enough to have that type of painter I recommend....but hard to find

My best friend for the last 25 years is a super for a high end custom builder and he was just telling me how they have gone to giving their customer two options on painting. option 'a' is their long standing guy who is a perfectionist and charges $10.00 a sf. The other 'b' option is a decent crew but they only get one walk through and after that they are done for $4/5.00 a sf. Hard to believe there is such a gap in pricing but there is that big of a gap in quality as well, some have a eye for it some dont.

Thanks for all the advice. Unfortunately, the demo of the marble floors was a disaster and now a cement company has to come in and get the floor to builder smooth. I guess the painting should wait until that is done (dust from cement mixing) and i am moving in later so the floors get done right. But i will paint before the floors get done now if possible.

Never seen a painter do it once out here. The picky builders I used to work for always made them do it twice or thrice. I would never want to be a painter, but I used to paint. Now I only do it for my wife and relatives. And she is a ......bleep to paint for. I like spraying exteriors better.
