Is it true that a quality engineered floor is a damn close match to looking like the 'real' thing? In my case the rest of the house is plain ole 3/4" red oak T&G hardwood strip.
It depends on the type of cut. Some thicker engineered veneer products are rotary peeled such as some that Robbins manufactures. With the Owens plank product they are all solid sawn, which offer the appearance of traditional 3/4" solid hardwood flooring.

Owens Plank. We've added it to the site again after having problems with availability a few years back.
