So, You guys and girls who do flooring for a living...

Is it true that a quality engineered floor is a damn close match to looking like the 'real' thing? In my case the rest of the house is plain ole 3/4" red oak T&G hardwood strip.

With this project, I have to go over a slab and building a plywood subfloor will not be practical for all the obvious reasons. I was thinking of using the Owens Plank glued directly to the concrete. Is there a better product than Owens or are they up there with the best?

Thanks again,

Bill D

It depends on the type of cut. Some thicker engineered veneer products are rotary peeled such as some that Robbins manufactures. With the Owens plank product they are all solid sawn, which offer the appearance of traditional 3/4" solid hardwood flooring.

Check out more on Owens Plank. We've added it to the site again after having problems with availability a few years back.
