I have a client who wants me to lay over OSB . I dont have a problem with it really , well yes I do , I just cant see this subfloor holding any type of a fastener at all. A staple maybe but a cleat no way. I would be interested in hearing any and all experiences with this type of subfloor. Thanks in advance.

Rich,

I've been stapling 3/4" to OSB for 15 years and have not had a problem. I have not tried a cleat. While I do not like OSB, it is approved by the NWFA and NOFMA as a subfloor for nailing to. Plan on sanding the seams because they often pucker. And the stuff made today is better than the stuff they made 15 years ago. BTW, it needs to be 3/4" thick over joists 16" OC. Don't buy the 20" OC is fine crap, it isn't. If the subfloor is over joists/trusses 20" OC, then more plywood is needed to stiffen things up.

I was hoping you would have good news for me and you do. the subfloor felt solid enough It was just the question of holding power that had me worried . I know you wouldnt steer me wrong so thanks so much the weekend will be a bit nicer now. I have 2000 feet to put down in this place so you can see where my concern came from . Have a good one and thanks again
