Hi - I'm about to put large 8X10 oriental rug over Mirage engineered sapele - I searched old topics but didn't see much info. I'm concered about rug damaging floor -I've looked for pad info but again didn't see much on rugs over hardwood. I've heard that the open waffel weave can transfer image to floor or worse stick and not come up. I wonder if this is a problem with enginerred wood? I'm not really worried about rug moving - will have large furniture on top and room we don't use much. Also, I'm concerned about "scratch" wear around border or where it will get some traffic if I don't put some kind of pad down. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I don't use them for the reasons you mentioned. Perhaps there is a pad out there that doesn't hurt the floors but I'm not aware of it. The finishes today are pretty tough. Your rug's backing would need to be very rough and moving to damage most of today's floor finishes, IMO.
