I am going to be doing extensive remodeling of my home and one of the first projects is to remove carpeting and install 1500 sq ft of 3/4 inch hardwood, hickory or maple. Not sure yet if I will go prefinished or site finished. I need a couple of saws for the project.

I'm debating whether to get the Skil Flooring saw http://www.lowes.com/pd_320303-46922-36 ... Id=3179071 which is about $160. The plus for this saw is that it is inexpensive and from the reviews I've read it will be adequate and does both cross cuts and rips. I'm not sure this saw will be the right saw for my other projects. (bathroom and kitchen remodel) but I could resell it after the floor is done and probably recoup a good part of my investment.

The other option I'm considering is to buy a portable table saw. Either the Ridgid http://www.homedepot.com/Tools-Hardware ... CgaeES1nps or Dewalt http://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-DW745-10-I ... +table+saw.
The Ridgid is about $500 and the Dewalt about $350. A lot more than the Skil saw but they would be handy to have for my other projects and I would probably purchase them later on anyway.

I think what it comes down to is which of these tools will do the best job for the flooring project. Some might suggest that I buy a chop saw and a table saw, but my preference is to have just one saw that will do a good job for the flooring install and my other projects.

My other question is whether to get a multi-tool or a jig saw?

Thanks for reading this post and any ideas. :)

The Skill 3800 is a great little saw for engineered and laminate..but your going to burn it up cutting 3/4 solid. You need a mitre saw, table saw..and an array of other tools, depending on your installation.

Thank you. Any thoughts on whether to get a multi-tool like the Fein or a Jig-Saw?

Hard to say about the multi function without seeing the installation. Installers didn't have that tool for many years of installation, although it makes life easier in certain situations. It would definetely be a handy tool for many scenarios, with your remodeling. I bought mine at Harbor Freight for I think 40 or 50 bucks...works great. I have jigsaws for woodworking, but never have needed one for a hardwood floor installation. It's amaizing what can be done with a tablesaw...but don't get too brave, be careful.

I owned a Delta table saw about 30 years ago. No guards at that time. Was a great tool and deserving of greater respect. I think I will start with one of those and then add saws and other tools as needed. My project is extensive and I'm under no deadline.
Might be handy to have one of those HF multi tools.

Thanks for the tip about the Bosch saw! Moved to the top of my list.

Do you use it with the aluminum stand? If so, do you like it?

Nice saw 8-) My Makita has that same type dust port going out the back...I hook a bag up to it...makes a huge difference on cleanup, ( I never run a table saw in someone's home, but it makes cleanup a snap outside). I don't know why but just about all the table saws now days have the "kill switch" on the left, ( like that Bosch), that's why I stay with Makita..don't like it on the left

On the subject of tools....Finally bought that Bosch Fine Cut , don't know how I lived without it! :D
