quick question...we wanted to refinish our floors that have been carpeted since we bought the house. Upon doing so, we saw that the "old" padding (from God knows how long) was never removed properly so now it's pretty much stuck on the floor. It's so old that it looks like dried up glue. We wanted to go the "sandless" route with our flooring. Will that be possible with this problem? The stuff comes off, but only if you use a metal putty knife or something like that to scrape it off. The actual wood is in fabulous condition. Beautiful honey oak, but this stuff all over is giving me a headache! HELP!!

I would guess that even if you scrape all the padding off, , the floor is likely to have been cleaned with Murphy's oil soap or some other similar cleaner .The problem is that those kind of products are actually contaminates that will prevent you from easily buffing and re coating the floor. It's possible but it can be messy. I'd recommend cleaning a test area thoroughly and applying some new urethane to it and give it a week to see if it delaminates

If you are thinking about the Mr. Sandless system, I would suggest getting a written promise as to the results you can expect. There is quite a bit of marketing hype behind that company and in truth, they really don't have any technology or products that we pros don't already have .
