Am looking at buying some engineered white oak wide plank, am thinking about oil finished . Any negatives about oil finish vs aluminum oxide ? This will go in family room dining room and kitchen. The kitchen is what has me worried. Thanks Phil

When I went to Germany to the Lagler sanding machine company to learn their
sanding technique on the new machines. the owner said he would not use oil on his kitchen floor. We only used oil finish when we sanded the white oak parquet floors during our sanding school. I guess that he figured that it would be harder to keep clean.
Some people think that they are going to have time to do touch-up type maintenance for the oil finish, but it takes getting down on your knees to re-oil the floor when it needs it.
Of course I recommend a film type finish cause it is easier to clean after it gets dirty.
An aluminum oxide finish from the factory in low sheen would be the best value for the money IMO. You don't plan to have a dirty floor, it just happens.
