Hi, I am having my Bruce hardwood glue-down floors refinished. Contractor is using oil based poly and doing 2 coats. I never knew so many possibilies s flooring. Can u help!? Do you recommend:
1. One coat sealer and two coats poly or three?
2. Does oil based need sealer.
3. how many coats of stain should he use.
4. What is best oil based sealer (Bona?).
Oh....
Satin finish? No kids or pets in home.

Thanks experts-appreciate any advice!

sealer is a thinned down coat of poly. Its designed to fill in and penetrate into the wood fiber. Its a coat of finish its just not as heavy/thick as straight poly. Only stain a floor once. stain sits in the pours of the wood surface, once you fill them they are full you cant overfill them by adding more stain it will just wipe off.

Thanks very much for this Kevin. I emailed the flooring company to get clarification and they said that they 1. Use a penetrating finish (duraseal or minwax); seal and then two coats of Street Shoe poly commercial water based finish. But, the other day they had said they would use oil based (is that poly ). I think I want oil and never heard of street shoe. There is so much out there- how does a person know? Thanks!!
