I had my floors completely redone about a year ago. The contractor used a water-based polyurathane finish. I am not happy on how it is holding up. I'd like to add some new finish to it, and was wondering if it would be OK to finish it with an oil based poly product - OVER the finish that is there now. I do not use any of the "mop and clean" products on my floor, just vinegar and water to clean it. So, it has no build up at all.

Or would a tung oil finish be OK?

Thanks.

no tung oil !

and a quality waterbase would hold up, better than pil in some cases..ast least in comparison to oils here on the East coast( strict V.O.C.) law compliancy.

get a recoat of 2 coats quality finish..

and STOP cleaning with vinegar...if the floor guy told u to do that, he condemend his own floor...
You can use oil based over the water, but i would use to water...

what u are seeing is an effect of the water and vinegar usage..im sure the floors look like crap, but this can be corrected with a thorough cleaning with proper products.

After cleaned properly, make an assessment t of your floors then.

if the finishes are truly looking like crap, assess the reasons why, your care, usages etc.

an honorable floor guy would honor normal usages with failed finishes.at least he should..
