I came up with some pictures from an install Gary did on his own house, but couldn't find too much from the search function. I am wondering how hard the 5/16th inch thick, about 1 or an 1 1/2 wide oak strip flooring is to install. I tore up the carpet on my stairs and was pleasantly surprised to find the treads are solid 3/4 oak, except for two approx. 3 feet by 3 feet treads (the stairs change directions on these treads) that are these 5/16th oak strips. Needless to say these treads are loose and very creeky after 80 years(not to mentioned water stained).

Considering these are such small areas, what is involved in doing it myself and is it even worth it (should I just hire it out)?

Nick
