I had pre-finished hardwood floor installed 4 weeks ago. The floor makes a crackling sound when walked upon. Sounds likes walking on cellophane. The base floor is concrete. And a pad was installed on the concrete under the hardwood. What could be causing this noise and what are my remedies?

AriZ reference points to solid hardwoods, not a floating floor, which by your description tells me it is.

It sounds (walking on cellophane) like an unusual type of underlayment, or not a typical type often recommended. But when you mention crackling, I'm thinking poor sub floor conditions, or not flat as it's supposed to be. That in itself can lead to side and end joint noise when walked on.

Remedies? Doesn't sound good. Have any more info?

Do you feel soft spots in areas where the noise is more pronounced when walked on?
