I am about two thirds done with flooring the first floor. However now I am at a decision point on where\how to start the next rows.

From left to right:
On the left I have an entire room that needs to be floored.
Then there is a wall separating the room from the stairs. The stairs need to be back filled by a board or slightly more from where the hallway stops.
The hallway is floored up to 1/2 board of the undercut end post.
On the right I have a room two thirds floored.

I am not sure the proper way to back fill the board on the stairs. There is also are walls between the left room, hallway, and right room.

Between the left room and the stairs the wall itwill take 3 boards to clear the wall.
Between the stairs/hallway and the left room the wall will that will take 2 boards to clear.

Any thoughts?

thanks

erik

To "backfill", use spline or sliptongue to reverse direction of the tongues.

The other questions I'm not sure what your asking. It sounds and looks like your ready to tie in the hall and the room on the right, and go down into the room on the left. What's the question :?

I actually started in the right room and worked right to left into the left room. I was not sure if I had to start in the left room and work left to right into the right room. The option I was considering was working left to right starting at the stairs but was concerned with face nailing a starting row.

For the stair i lifted up the carpet and more than a board will fit in there. I made a snap line with hallway and screwed down a starter board. Will back fill the board when I am done connecting the rooms.

Man am I confused ! Who's on 1st ?

I'm under the impression that you started on the sliding patio door wall in the large room, and your making your way past the closet/bath "island" for the tie in ??

I may have to bow to my buddies on this one

I started in the middle of the house and worked toward the patio. That side of the house is open, so I want it to be straightest there with respect to the layout of the walls, etc. Basically finished that lower side of the house first, then put up a kitchen. Then I did most the right upper room, slowly worked the hallway and bathroom.

I am working on the upper side of the house. So far everything is straight. The hallway and the right room tied in nicely last night..

Have you started in different rooms or did you start in one place and are continuing through to each room??? I am so confused I can't even figure out how to ask my question.

My starting point was the bottom left room (S), upper left corner(SW). I then went across the entire house into the kitchen(N). Rows are going S to N.

From there I worked down (E) and filled the bottom half of the house.

The next room was upper right (NW) which started from the kitchen. I held off a last rows as I was uncertain how nice the tie in to the hallway would be.
The hallway was next which started from the middle of the house, then the bathroom.

For both the hallway and upper right room I had to make some 5/8 splines and reverse direction. Making splines is very dusty! Think I need 18' more of them too.

I only have the upper left room left which unfortunately has most of the furniture in it for the last year that needs to be moved.
