Hello all, been reading this forum for a bit now, wanted to get some opinions..
Just bought a house in NC, built around 1937. The downstairs has oak throughout, they are in good shape, just need to be refinished.
The upstairs is a studio style room with just one large room, and one large bathroom. The room portion is approximately 12 x 23. In that room is subflooring, and some kind of plank tongue and groove flooring (5"), that is painted grey. It is in ok shape, it is still flat, but there is some seperation, where the planks are coming apart.
Anyway, I have about 350 sf of walnut flooring, with width's of 2",3", and 5". I also have about 100+ sf of walnut parquet. I'd like to do the stairs with that, but don't know if that would be beyond my abilities.
Ok, so my question is: should I leave the existing plank flooring there, and then just put some rosin paper down and have at it? My dad recommended masonite, but that doesn't seem right. If photos would help, I can put them up. Thanks in advance!
