I am a bit overwhelmed here looking at different flooring choices. I'd love to have a hardwood floor but I don't know if it would be the right flooring for this old house.

My first concern is moisture. I live in a river valley. My home foundation is pier with beams. I have a walk-in / crawl space with dirt. It's not a typical crawl space. Most of it is 6 foot high but towards the front it's only about 3 foot high. There is no way to lay down moisture barrier on the ground. This is an area people walk on.

My joists are 7.25 inches high by 1.5 inches wide.
The joist spacing is on 16 inch centers.
The joist span is about 11.5 feet. (I'm looking at adding some support to cut that in half)

How can I determine if I could do a wood flooring install in this home?

You can always get down there through the top if you cut a hole big enough.
