Hi all,

Im so lucky I came across this forum. I found so much useful info searching through the archives. Im hoping some of you can help once again to aid me in my install this weekend.

1. Stair nosing is 3 1/8" with 3/4" overhang. Will glue and nail with 16g finish nailer. Can you describe
the nailing pattern and spacing? Also, how tight to zigzag Urethane ? I dont want to overkill since the face nailing will be visible here

2. Installing 3 5/8 Kempas (3/4") with 2" Bostitch cleats. Can someone tell me proper spacing of cleats in middle
and ends?

3. If I just glue the last few rows in other areas do you guys have any tips of getting the boards snug?
I was thinking of just using a tapping motion with the end of a crowbar/hammer...

I really appreciate all the insight. Thanks again, Sam

1.about two to three inches apart.
2.proper nail space is 8-10 apart and 2" from each end.
3.you can take a large screwdriver and drive it in in front of the board and pry back to snug up. Be careful you need to keep downward pressure on the screwdriver because you dont want it to come up over the edge and slide back toward you leaving a big cross grained scratch.

I prefer to use star bit trim screws on stairs. Stairs tend to get a karate kick motion when people run up them and I don't want them working loose so I don't use 16g finish nails. See picture below.

I have two drills and make a pilot hole with an 1/8 inch drill. I pattern the holes so I have three screws in each stringer.

It sounds like you are using flooring boards and nosings to make the treads. What I have found works well is to mark the width of the nosing using a scrap piece on the tread sub-floor. Then add the width of the planks and figure out what the rip is going to be and cut the rip piece first. If you install the rip first you can blind nail the planks every 5 to 6 inches and pilot and screw the nosing through the sub-floor and into the stingers.

Appreciate all the input guys. Not doing the stairs, just nosing off the ledge of where the floor meets stairs.
