Hi,

First off, I was trying to find any info on the Porta Nailer 402 hardwood nailer. That manual nailer is available to rent.

I can't seem to find any gauge info on Porta Nails.

1)The flooring manufacturer recommends 18 gauge 1 1/2" nails. Does anyone know how the 1 1/2" porta nails compare to the 18 gauge?

2)Do you guys think the Porta Nailer 402 is worth using?

Thanks for any help...

Joe

My sub floor is 5/8th inch plywood, I saw on this site the prep for sub floor "flattening". I believe that article was for concrete slab prep... If I am prepping 2 types of sub floor:

1) 5/8" plywood (need to flatten) and

2)old solid wood planks laid diagonally

how do I prep? I need to sand and "patch" the plywood right?

I suppose I need to lay underlayment for the old boards?

Any help is great!

Thanks

I highly recommend the HighPro AS4090 flooring stapler.

The 402 uses a 15.5 gauge staple. Surface pimples are likely.

Thanks floorguy for the HighPRO 4090 suggestion...

I can buy one for about $250 and it seems like the one for my job.

I can rent the Port-A-Nail Model 461 for less than $50 a day.

Do any of you know much about that model? and how would you compare it to the HighPRO 4090?

Thanks again!

Depends how many sq.ft. your installing. $50 x 5 days is $250.

Buy the gun, use it, sell it on e-bay.

Thanks floorguy!

So, Now I have my climate control system up and running after about 3 months of no use. I plan to operate it continuously (more or less) for 3 weeks. During this time, I can prep my subfloors and crawlspace. Then, I will unpack all of my bamboo material and acclimate for 10 days.

I'll keep posting on my progress!
