Hi Folks,
I just purchased 360 Sqft of ARK 3/8" Santos flooring. I was going to install myself, but my wife said NO !!! Its for our bedroom and she does not want it torn up for weeks.

The store where I got the wood, has contractor installers that charge $1.75 sq ft. They said they would deliver the flooring. So I setup an appointment for this Friday.

I did a lot of reading about installing floors, so I asked the installer a few questions. First "when are you going to bring the wood, I understand that the flooring needs to sit in the same room for a couple of days", he said don't worry about that, the showroom environment is close enough to your bedroom".

Next I asked about a moisture check, he said its not needed if the house is older then 5 years. We have a single story concrete slab house that is older then 6 years. I was planning to do a glue down.

So should I ditch this guy ?

I live near Jacksonville, Fl any installers out there ?

Cheers
-Fred

Guy is just trying to cut corners and get paid faster. All you have to do is dictate that you want the floor to acclimate per industry standard and per the manufactures warranty. He isnt going to stand behind it if it fails so make sure that the basics are covered just for peace of mind if anything.

Fred:

I may be interested in handling the project. I've given a lot of thought to getting back into installation and moving back to Florida. I actually handled this project (link below) in Jacksonville back in 2004. I'm thinking it was down in the St. Johns area. Much newer area.

Three pages- http://www.hardwoodinstaller.com/instal ... eneral.htm

It's been on the site since and has been seen and referenced a large number of times. Almost like the go to guide for gluing down engineered floors. Keep in mind, it was done well before concrete slab sealers became commonplace.

Frankly as I look at how things have progressed since it almost seems mandatory some sort of protection be used with glue down installations. PM me if you'd like to talk.

Hi Gary,
How soon could you install it ?

I also have another 322sq ft of Santos coming in for another room, so in total I have over 600 sq ft of flooring to install.

First Batch - 360 sq ft of:
BRAND NAME: Ark Hardwood Flooring
SERIES NAME: Elegant Exotic 4-3/4 IN. Engineered
PRODUCT NAME: Santos Mahogany Natural
PRODUCT SKU: ARKEB12A01
DIMENSIONS: 1/2 IN. x 4-3/4 IN. x Random Lengths

The 2nd Batch 322 sq ft. is:
IndusParquet Hardwood Flooring
5/16 IN. x 6-1/4 IN.
Engineered Exotics Santos Mahogany

I saw this deal online for .99 cents per sq ft. I could not resist. If there is a reasonable waste, I could do 2 other bedroom with this batch.

The guy is scheduled to do the first batch on Friday, my gut feel is to ditch him. So lets touch base soon.

Cheers
-Fred
