I want to do this right the first time but have alot of questions.

Background: I purchased some 3/4" white oak gunstock to lay in our living room on 3/4" plywood over the crawl portion half basement (about 3' from the cement). It arrived from the warehouse in shrink wrapped boxes and I put it in my attached garage on Thursday where it sat until today when I moved it into the house. I live near chicago and it has been about 65% humidity the last few days.

1) Do I need to remove the shrink wrapping to acclimate it in the house and how do I know when the wood is acclimated? I have a whole house humidifier set at 35%.

2) Do I need a moisture barrier? Is #15 asphalt felt sufficient?

3) The fireplace hearth has a 2" mortar section in front of it before the plywood begins. This mortar is about 1/4" higher than the plywood. Can I level this by leveling up felt up to the lip?

4) I plan on running the boards perpendicular to the joists. Is this ok?

TIA

There should be instructions that came with the flooring. Sometimes there is only one set of instructions per ten boxes. Keeping opening boxes till you find them then follow them.
1) You need a moisture meter to accurately tell when the flooring has reached an equalibrium to the home.
2) NOFMA and the NWFA plus many manufacturers require a 6 mil poly vapor barrier installed on the ground in the crawl space.
3) I wouldn't. Chip that 1/4" uneven area out till it is even and glue the wood in that area only.
4) Yes, it is the correct way.

Since I don't have a moisture meter im hoping 7 days acclimation will be ok. I am seeing conflicting information on web site about how to acclimate. Do I open the boxes or leave them wrapped? Leaving them wrapped seems like it would only hinder acclimation.

I have had to let wood acclimate 2 months on one job a couple of years ago. It had really high MC and I had to let it come down to interior ambient conditions, dictated MC.

Had I installed it after 7 days, there would now be 1/8" gaps everywhere.
