I have been reading through this site and it seems very informative. Lots of great info (like John Bridge site for tile).

My question - is there a limit in floor deflection for the installation of wood floors?

Thanks

Simply stated, yes. But no need to get into mathematical formulas. Todays general building codes will provide a substrate that will not deflect beyond the flooring's ability to perform. Of course, it depends on the type of wood flooring we are discussing as some require a stiffer substrate than others. When dealing with older homes, a proper job site inspection is needed to determine if the substrate is acceptable as is; or if it will need to be repaired or improved.

My concern is there is a bit of springy feel to the floor. Its 9 1/4" engineered "I" joists 16" c/c spanning 16'-0". While adequate for the span, I'm worried about the finish floor and deflection. Wish now I would have oversized the floor joists.
