Hi,

I finally installed some my hardwood floors today. It is $2.85 sq/ft Birch from China. It's rustic grade.

Now while I don't have any high pitched squeaks per say.. I do indeed have some single, low pitch crackles or crunches.

So basically, I'll walk into room. Step in spot and hear a low pitch 'crunch'. It's pretty quiet and doesn't stand out.

Also, the strange thing is if I move off the area and back on, it might disappear. It's fairly quiet a low pitch though and a lot of people might not notice it.

We did have a board that actually squeaked when we put it in and we removed the board. So it's definitely not squeaking.

Is the crunching sound normal? Oh it also doesn't do it on every step. Could be any part of the floor.

It's 3-1/2 x 3/4" standard hardwood of Birch.
The subfloor is 3/4" OSB
The underlayment is this brown wax paper that is popular here in Canada for installs.
Roofing shingles were used with dips.
Staples were 1.5" using botstitch air compressed at ~78 PSI.

The wood quality was poor. The milling was poor. Lots of bends in the wood. Pieces were small.

Here is a pic:
