Hey all,

Question. Why does my hardwood floor "crackle" when I first walk on it? Especially ares that have seen little or no traffic. The more I walk on a certain area the sooner the crackling goes away. The areas I walk several times a day almost has no crackle. Or none at all. Does this happen with all new installs?

I had hardwood in my last house. But it was over 15 years since I first walked on those floors.

No, I don't yet have a humidifier installed. Working on that. Should be in next week.

The type of "crackling" you are hearing is normal for a new install and usually will self-correct with use. But dont neglect your interior climate controls. You wont need a humidifier during the summer months. You may need a de-humidifier, depending on your location.

Right. I contacted the owner (of the hardwood install company I used) and he told me the same thing. That it's normal for new installs and will go away within a month with use (walking). I have already noticed that in areas most walked on.

Regarding a humidifier...I'm in the process of ordering one along with my new a/c. Will be going to hand the a/c company a deposit today actually.
