We just bought a home, we will be replacing the carpet with hardwood. We like the longer length planks with lots of grain. Hickory seems to be a favorite of ours. We like floors that have minor hand scraping and minor distress.

We have engineered hardwood in our home now. I like the idea of this, but I’m not sure we can get what we want in Engineered without having it made special.

I also want to be able to sand out scratches and repair areas without having to do the whole floor. My thought is that this will lead me to an oiled finish.

We just saw a floor that is finished with tung oil. They said they can sand out scratches and finish without much visible difference.

What product is recommended?

1. Is tung oil a good way to go?
2. Can we get engineered hardwood in lengths that average 7’ – 8’ ?
3. What’s more appealing to the eye, one width or varied widths?
4. Where can we get nice hickory?

I got the photo of the web (link below), this product is about $20’. Seems a little steep. I live in the Sacramento California area, any recommendations on where to get wood and find a good installer.

Hard wax oil is also a nice option. Check out WD Flooring, they are the best at Rubio hard wax oil.
