 Post subject: new hardwood floor in kitchen- issues

We just had a new red oak floor installed in our kitchen. It appears very dull and rough, and is also very soft, especially compared to the rest of our hardwood floors (which are 80+ years old and still in excellent condition).

After only a few days, we already have significant scratches/ nicks/ dents. Should I ask the contractor to remedy this problem? Is this due to improper sealing?

Yes, it's challenging to give you advice. Is it solid wood? Did they stain it? What type of poly did they use? Do you have pictures.

New oak flooring is grown faster than what was used 80/100 years ago so in general it will be a little softer due to the fact its less dense. As far as scratches go what caused them?
