My newly-installed Kahrs engineered woodloc makes loud popping sounds when I walk on it -- all around the perimeter of the room.

The installer told me it was caused by the paint on the quarter rounds -- but it's been several days and the paint is obviously dry by now.

What do you think could be the problem?

Thanks!

P.S.

It's a floating floor over concrete.

Yes, it is the trim squeaking!!! I've had it happen, after the home owner installed the trim

Thanks so much, floorguy!

I guess that means there wasn't enough space left between the trim and the floor? The contractor installed the trim himself. What do you suggest as a remedy for this?

The trim is stuck to the floor. Latex paint has an adhesive quality to it.

Thanks, Chuck.

Actually, the quarter rounds have only been primed, not yet painted.

The installer is coming this week to remove the quarter rounds to see if the noise goes away. But is there another solution?

If he tells me the popping will go away with time...can I believe him?

Thanks!

So the ΒΌ round isn't caulked yet? A tiny bead of caulk on the top and along the floor, usually takes care of it.

Let it cure before walking over there. Test it on one wall. stay away from that wall till the next morning and see if it squeaks,

The problem is the paint on the bottom of the quater round. If you take it off and scrape the paint off the back sides the noise will stop.

I have also had this issue. I have noticed that if the angle of the trim nail catches between the edge of the floor, and the base moulding, you will get a creaking sound when you step on floor near that point.I guess its kind of like a cricket rubbing its wings. I have simply removed the moulding, and the offending nails. Then reset the nails at more of a 90 degree angle to the floor so the nail does'nt catch the edge of the flooring.

why not re-install the moulding, but place a single sheet of news paper between the floor and molding before nailing it? this will give an unnoticable space between them so that the floor won't rub against it.

plus, when you paint them, that little space makes it easier to tape a more clean line.

That's what I did in the second room I did. We did both a dinning and family room. I have squeaks like that in the dinning room due to the 1/4 round.

I used a piece of computer paper in the family room and no squeaks.
