3 months after having Bruce 3/4" pre-finished oak installed we noticed tiny, round dents all over the floors, concentrating in the heavy walk areas. Best guess this was/is due to a stone in a shoe...we only wear running shoes. While investigating this, I've been able to make an indentation with my thumbnail. I realize some denting is wear/tear, but my thumbnail! Armstrong won't warrantee dents obviously, but if my nail can dent the floor/finish, what will the floors look like in five years? :x Should I be irate?

You need an inspection, but I'm sure the inspector would find the complaint not justified.

Fingernails can dent depending on compresive strength... just like dog's nails can dent and scratch.

Stone in a shoe? Small high heels usually are the culprit...

Wood floor will dent. It's wood and wood dents.

Your floor will have a lot of character in 5 years, and that is about the time for a recoat in a busy household. The 25 and 30 year finish warranties, don't mean it won't need a recoat in 3 to 10 years. It is all depending on the use & abuse it gets. The marketing warranties, are very misleading. Your not going to wear through the finish to bare wood, but uglying out is a different thing all together.

It may very well be the finish denting, and not the wood compressing.

Walk off mats at all doors, helps a lot.
