I just got engineered wood flooring put into my condo. It looks great but sounds terrible. No matter where I walk it squeaks/creaks. The best way to describe the sound is that it sounds like rice krispies.

I checked out the wood flooring of a few friends who live in the same building and none of them have (or have ever had) that problem. We all used the same underlay, ie Quiet Walk.

What might be causing this problem? The underlay and wood floor are floating over concrete. The wood floor used in my condo is of the quick-snap assortment. The install was done by Rona - Canada's version of Home Depot.

Jen, was it acclimated? Thats the usual first question. Floor flatness has lots to do with it as well. Plus some of those engineered click wood floors are just plain noisy. Do your friends also have the same flooring?

No both my friends have different flooring. I would say the wood is acclimated. It was sitting in my condo for a week before they installed it. Total days now that it's been in my condo is about 10 days. My condo isn't dry. I also keep the AC running at the recommended room temperature for the wood. What I notice with my floor is that it actually rises and falls when you walk across it. I had a friend walk on my floor yesterday while I observed her. In addition, I can fit coins within the gaps. Is this because the floor or subfloor was laid incorrectly? Or both?

there shouldn't be any gaps in the field with a floater. the floor by design is suppose to contract and expand as a one piece. sounds like its getting below the recommended rh range. get a cheap hydrometer and check to see if its below 45%. if so it could use a little moisture. and all those click lock eng wood floors ive seen creak to some degree with any deflection.
