My husband and I are brand-spankin'-new newbies, having just had a floating cork floor installed in our kitchen. The manufacturer (APC) recommends an add'l screen and coat w/ 2 coats of waterbourne poly, (since it's in the kitchen). It's only about 98 sq. ft., and prof'l wood refinishing guys aren't interested (or it would be WAY too expensive, given the size), so we plan to tackle it ourselves, despite our lack of experience.

We have a little 4X4 Ryobi sander and 220 grit sandpaper, vacuum, lint-free cloths, Minwax waterborne poly for floors and and paint pad for application. Never having done this (or anything like it) before, do you profs have any good tips for us? We're committed to the waterborne poly because of the very light color of the floor (Apollo White). Other than that, we're open to suggestions.
