I'm bidding on an upscale job, they have preexisting cherry which (from pictures) looks like prefinished. They want a new cherry floor in their addition. Can you even match a cherry floor that has been installed for 20 years to a new cherry floor? Cherry naturally darkens on its own...sure i could stain it (really dont want to), but the wood will still get darker on its own. The question is will it get darker at a significantly higher rate since it is new wood? This wood mean even if i got it to match initially, it would eventually look way different than the existing floor.

jus put it in and let it age...only way....just explain thoroughly to the owners

Had a customer just this week return some b.cherry because it didnt match her 10 yr old floor. I told her to expect it and the new material was so light out of the box they flat out refused it. So like james said be absolutely positively sure they understand the new floor is going to be drastically different at first, but in time will blend in, you have to let the new age like the old.
