I’m coming to the last transition where our carpeted family room meets the newly installed 4’ wide red oar kitchen flooring. The transition is at about a 65 degree angle and runs seven feet in length. Floor width is 11feet and length of 23 feet, with boards running lengthwise.
My concern here is expansion and contraction of the red oak flooring. If possible I would like to avoid using an overlapping threshold and make my own transition, by ripping a piece of flooring down to a width of two inches. If I do this, and cut my last seven rows of flooring to butt up to this transition, will I be asking for trouble (gaps) when we go into the heating season? Any feedback or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I’m also looking for any suggestion on how best to cut these boards so as to get the straightest line, and best possible butt fit to my transition.
Thank you
