Advice please on how to fix our flooring problem. A professional installer refinished our white oak in kitchen, hallway and stairs. Installed new white oak in adjoining family room. Used one coat of stain, one coat of sealer and two water based coats. The problem is that the floors are very rough and the color is horrible. We knew it wouldn't be a perfect match to our 3 yr old existing hardwood in our foyer, but this is a dramatic difference. The finished floors are significantly lighter and rough. From reading, I think he may not have buffed between water based coats and the grain lifted. I am also wondering if the lack of any oil based coat is what is giving its lighter appearance. Can I please have suggestions on how to fix it? I would like to avoid the sanding as it created a huge mess which we just cleaned up. Is it possible to have him just buff and then put an oil base coat over it? We have contacted the company, but have not heard back yet. Unfortunately, I just discovered his business is not longer accredited through the BBB due to customer complaints
