Hello,

I was fixing something the other day and something landed on the floor and put a small dent/hole in the floor. This is engineered hardwood. It seems small enough where I should be able to patch it with something. Is this possible or do I need to have the entire piece replaced??

There are a couple of ways to go about this. The BEST way, IMO, is to use a hard drying filler, like BONDO. Do not fill too high or excessively. fill just slightly above the dent/hole. After dry, CAREFULLY hand sand the filler flush with the floor. Then using acrylic artist paints and an artist paint brush, paint the filler to look like the wood. You may need to use a background color then a darker color to match graining. You are doing an age old technique of "fake wood" done for centuries to make inexpensive woods look better. Keep trying till you are satisfied with the appearance. Then after the paint is dry, apply a couple of coats of waterbased polyurethane on the repair, matching the sheen as well as possible. Your other option is to replace the board that is damaged.
