We plan to install Tarkett engineered Vanguard QuikLoc wood floor in our house. We are confused with one question here: we have a concrete slab in our house; we already bought the QuietWalk (the floating floor underlayment) from Lowes. On one side of the underlayment, there is this vapor barrier film. The sales associate at Lowes said that the underlayment is enough to safeguard the moisture problem. However, somebody else suggested that we put another layer of poly moisture barrier beneath the QuietWalk underlayment. Do you think it is worthwhile for us to buy the poly moisture barrier as well? It costs about $13 per 100 SQFT.

Thanks for your help.

You should be able to buy a 1000 ft roll of 6 mil polyethylene for under $40.00. I do all the time. Always follow the manufacturer's installation instructions. If HT says that 2 in 1 or 3 in 1 underlayment is adequate, then you're fine. But no harm in extra insurance when it comes to protecting your floors from moisture. Personally, I'd add the poly film for the little extra work and cost. It may be redundant but certainly couldn't hurt.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for the tip. One more question: where did you find the 1000 ft roll of 6 mil polyethylene for under $40.00? We normally go to Lowes or HomeDepot. But it looks like I did not see the roll you kindly mentioned.

Go to the paint section. Look at the black or clear 6-mil plastic. It is usually near the masking tape and painters plastic and drop cloths.

It has gone up in price in the last 3 years. What use to cost $13 is was $33, and now I'm thinking Gary says it has gone up to $40
