We've just installed new flooring that will need sanding and finishing. It will abut flooring that was coated with satin McCloskey Gym Seal years ago. That product is a Tung oil based finish which is no longer made. The old floors look mostly great. We're thinking of "renewing" the old floor with a light sanding and another coat of some Gym Seal that we've had in storage, but we don't have enough to do the new room. Any suggestions for an oil based compatible sealer/finish that can be applied next to the Gym Seal? We like the amber color change that has deepened over time. When the new flooring was laid, it was interwoven with the Gym Sealed flooring so that there wouldn't be a dividing line between the floors of the rooms. So now it is going to be tricky to finish it and have it blend into the old flooring. We really don't want to sand all the flooring (old and new) because the old floor still looks so good, it would be over double the labor, and the cost of refinishing all of the floors is too much. The next time the floors need a "renewal" treatment, what would be compatible to go over the Gym Seal? We would really like something that has a VOC content lower than 300. Someone has recommended "Traffic" a water based product from Bona Kemi, but we have been told that we can't put the water base sealer next to the oil. Also, we don't know any floor finishers who have long term experience with water based finishes that are durable. Do any of you know a good durable oil based finish that is low in VOCs? A durable water based finish that is low in VOCs? If we wind up needing to sand it all, I'd like to use something like Bona Kemi's Eon 70. Does anyone out there have experience and knowledge of this product (who isn't biased by being a distributor) and who can tell me if it is very durable? Any other recommendations? Thanks so much, in advance, for any time/advice given on these matters. Joya
