I recently installed my 3/4" Bruce hardwood flooring this past summer. One of my 41" stair nose sections for my foyer area step is butted up groove to groove and is starting to come loose. I'm guessing because it doesn't have the support of the tung and groove mating. Is there any trick to supporting 2 peices that aren't able to mate up tung and groove? Thanks for any input :D

I take it you glued it in? Any finish nails for support? If not drill it and put in some heavy finish nails or drill, screw, glue and plug it

No glue. Just Bostitch 2" finish nails. Should I pull it back up and glue down with finish nails? I plan to replace that nose section once I pull it up.

In a groove to groove situation you can make or purchase sliptongue or "spline' to create a tongue, interlock a t&g. That will solve overwood and gives extra support. But doing what SP mentioned is really all you need as far as securing. Yes, glue is a must. Iv'e also found that drilling a pilot hole and hand nailing finish nails is stronger and more secure than shooting a nosing with a gun.

Pull it back up and snip the nails off.

PL Premium Urethane adhesive.

Replace and renail.
