Hello all,

I getting ready to replace all my flooring "carpet" with hardwood flooring throughout my whole house. The question I have is, what room do I start in ? I have questions in my mind I cannot answer like : When I starting installing the hardwood floor in one side of the house and when I get to the other side will the flooring line up with the last wall. Maybe if I understood on how to layout the whole house I would not have these questions. My home has 4 bedroom , 1 computer room and 1 living room. Not sure yet if I will do my dining room and kitchen.

This brings up another question. I have ceramic tile in my dining room and kitchen. If I want to replace the ceramic tile with hardwood floors how do I remove the martar from the ceramic tile.

Any links to sites that explain this will be appreciated. I'll take any information on this subject.

What you have are great questions that you alone will be able to answer.

The first question you will have to answer is, are you able to do this job yourself? It sounds like an enormous task.

I have tackled two stairways and 800 square-feet of flooring. So far I have finished one stairwell and am working on the other. This would be more than most folks could handle, but I have the advantage of having access to good tools, plenty of time, and a dad who is an expert furniture designer and builder acting as my consultant. I also broke the project into small pieces that I can complete in phases.

You will not find any better resources than the pages accompanying this forum: http://www.hardwoodinstaller.com/hardwoodinstaller/. Read the pages, imagine that you are doing the job yourself, and then see if it is one that you really want to tackle.

It's not impossible, but quite difficult to find a professional installer who will be willing to come in and finish off what you no longer want to do, or can't do!
