I posted this in the sticky, but sticky posts dont stand out as well since they are always "stuck" (these forums should highlight the sticky to indicate a new post...just a thought)

Anyway....
Question: I am renovating my home to add hard wood flooring 3/4" on top of 3/8" due to running parallel to my joists. Of course I am not going to remove my Cabinits. But I have 2 questions.

1) What do I do with my dishwasher? I have casters that look like they will raise up to clear the 3/4" + 3/8" to get out if needed?

2) I have an island. Should I remove and place on top or put the flooring around it?

NOTE: I have to add the additional Plywood to my 23/32" flooring since I am running parallel.

Check and double check to be positive your not traping the dishwasher.

You may have to remove the dishwasher completely and remove the adjustable legs all together, to get enough clearance.

Go aroung the island or it will be higher then the rest of the cabinets.

One thing I almost missed was the refrigerator height. It sits about 1/8 inch below the smaller cabinets above it... So, 3/4 hardwood would mean removing some of the cabinet bottom, or build a new cabinet.

You could kill all the birds with one stone and do what wound up happening here. I removed all the base cabinets and will lay 3/4 ply underneath to raise them to the same height.

Please keep in mind that I am not into self punishment. The real reason I removed the base cabinets was because of the original ceramic tile going underneath them. No toe kick saw would cut flush easily enough.

Granted, I wouldn't have done this if a marble counter were in play.
