I am installing hardwood floors around an "island" section of the living room. I am worried that my boards will line up properly when i meet on the other side of the island. I am assuming that i need to measure the distance from each of the finished sections from the last completed row before the island and make sure that i snap another line on the row where the boards will first meet on the other side of the island, making sure that my line distance is equal to X number of boards. I'm a home do it yourself'er, but i would sincerely appreciate a little guidance from some of you seasoned pros on this one. Ripping out boards isn't something i want to do today :-) thank you much for your help!

That's the way I go about wrapping an island. You may also want to measure your rows as you get closer to approaching the line.

You didnt say if this was naildown or gluedown.

Try to keep even pressure, working your way toward the line. If it's a gluedown install, I wrap around the islands while the planks will still move in the adhesive.

I'm not trying to sell you anything  But strap clamps are helpful in this situation , for a gluedown install.
