We have been researching flooring for sometime and still have not come to a decision. Live in oceanfront condo in Florida and plan on installing engineered wood over ceramic tile. Have no problem with entry doors or appliances with added height.

One concern is the length from the entry door straight through to the back sliders is approx. 55 ft. We have been told you should not lay more than a 30-40 ft. expanse without an expansion joint. This would totally ruin the look as you see straight through from the entry to the sliders. If we layed the floor on an angle would this solve the problem? Does anyone have any suggestions? What if we leave extra room at sliders for expansion?

Also, does anyone have any experience, good or bad, with bamboo. I have seen some other posts elsewhere that says it scratches so badly. Love the vertical carbonized, but read it is a soft. If the finish is good does that matter?

I have learned so much from this forum and look forward to all your advice. Can anyone recommend a good quality engineered floor to float over tile?
