Hi Folks. First time poster, several weeks lurker.

I would very much appreciate some advice on installing a baby threshold at my front entrance door. I have installed 3/4" solid oak hardwood (parallel to the door) to withing about 2 feet of the door. Before I proceed much further, I need to know how to cut and install my baby threshold so that it will look the best. Now I know how that threshold works, but I have never seen one installed, and I am wondering if I should cut it so it fits between the interior door jambs, or flush to the outside of these jambs, or thirdly, even wider for a better look (say an inch, or so wider outside each jamb).

So far my first hardwood flooring project has gone very well, thanks a whole bunch to you guys, so I don't want to mess it up now by cutting my baby threshold wrong. I do need the expansion there as my room is 15 feet across.

I bought the baby threshold at our local Lowes, and I am assuming I need to attach it to a piece of 1/2" material laid under it to get it just right to clear my hardwood 2-1/4" strips...right? Now I have not cut it yet, and if you have a suggestion for something other than a baby threshold, please tell me.

Thank you so much.

Carl

Looks best if you can fit the flooring under the existing exterior threshold and not use an additrional trim piece. If that is not possible, the make your trim to the exterior threshold as small as needed. Two big bulky thresholds together looky "funky". If it looks better to undercut the casings on the side and fit your trim under those, then do it that way. I've done it all sorts of ways. Whatever looks the neatest and cleanest.
